Air Duct Replacement in Chula Vista, CA

When does duct replacement beat another cleaning?

The honest answer is condition, not age. Flex duct with torn inner liner sheds fiber no vacuum recovers. Under-slab ducts in some 1950s–60s East County homes hold silt and rust once moisture gets in; those are abandoned and re-routed, not cleaned. Original galvanized trunk and branch in slab-on-grade postwar ranches often survives fine. The branches off it rarely do.

Replacement starts with a static pressure reading and a look at return size. Undersized returns are common here. Putting new duct on an old bottleneck just moves the noise around. We size the trunk and re-balance branch runs. Boots seal to drywall, not attic insulation fibers.

Attic work is the real constraint. San Diego County attics get brutally hot in late summer, so replacement days start early and the crew rotates out. New flex gets suspended on wide saddle hangers at proper intervals. No compression at bends. No long sagging bellies collecting condensate during the August–September humid stretch.

If a system has rodent intrusion in crawlspace runs, we say so plainly. Droppings inside liner mean replacement. Cleaning that is spending money twice.
