Register Cleaning in Chula Vista, CA

Register cleaning in Chula Vista homes

Floor registers in slab-on-grade postwar ranches sit at the lowest point in the room. Decomposed-granite grit tracks in off driveways and walkways. Sweeping pushes some of it straight through the vanes. It collects in the boot below, then blows back out when the blower starts.

The first job is removal. Registers in older homes are often painted shut from repaints. Screw heads strip out of thin sheet metal. We score the paint line before prying so the drywall edge stays intact. Vanes and dampers get washed, dried, and reset square so they still close.

What sits behind the grille matters more than the grille. In attic flex-duct homes built after the mid-1980s, boot connections pull loose. Attic insulation fibers then ride the supply air. That gray fuzz on the vane edges is the tell. Wiping the register does nothing if the boot is open.

Closer to the bay, marine air corrodes registers from the back side. Stamped steel pits, finishes blister, screws seize. If a register flakes rust when handled, cleaning is a waste. Replacement is the honest answer.

Count your supplies and returns before calling. Return grilles are larger and the dirtiest. They show how neglected the filter has been.
